Most people I’ve spoken to seem to think that Puerto Pollensa is the best resort for kiddies in Majorca.

A few basic facts first:

• You don’t need a car
• it’s quite a small town
• You can get a taxi from the airport for about 70 euro
• There are no high rise apartments
• no nightclubs, etc
• All you get there are families with younger kids or oldies
• Beach is fabulous, with a military base to one side of it, so you get to see seaplanes taking off a few times each week (big hit with kiddies)
• Loads and loads of really good child friendly restaurants
• Can book accomodation on the Puerto Pollensa website
• The place is full of English and Irish

Location

You can either stay in an area called the Pine Walk which is the north part of the town or the South Sandy Beach, which is (surprise surprise) in the south of the town. We’ve always stayed in the Pine Walk as it’s nicer but you do pay a bit more for it. Best advice for apartments is to use the search engine in the Puerto Pollensa website, most of them have pictures, show on-line availability and are owned by English speaking people. You can sometimes haggle the asking price with them too. We’ve stayed at the Casa Elena which was really nice, and in the Katy apartments (overlooking the bay) which was fab too. Don’t go for an apartment too many streets away from the beach if you’ve got littlies. The benefit of being able to “pop” back to the apartment, without it being a massive undertaking, is enormous. There is a streetmap of PP on the website too, so you can usually pinpoint the apartment that you are looking at.

Hotels

As for hotels.....hmmm.... There’s a big posh one at the end of the Pine Walk called the Ila D’Or but I think that you would have to pawn your firstborn to get in there. A couple of hotels on the Pine Walk are called the Bahia and the Ses Pins. They look nice enough but I can’t really comment. A lot depends on the size of your family. For us, the thought of spending a week in the same bedroom as our 2 would drive us mental, but it’s horses for courses. Again, I’d always pick a hotel right by the beach. There are some that are more on the outskirts of town but they’d be a real pain in the bum to have to walk to and from every day. Eating Top 2 kiddie restaurants have to be Trios and Tangos. The waiters are fab, kids food is brought promptly, 3 course meal with a beer or 1/2 bottle of nice wine is about 14euro, and the food is pretty good.

Top tip for UK readers of this: If you shop with Tesco and collect their points, you can exchange points for 4 times their value in xl.com vouchers. This was definitely our cheapest way of getting over there. 

In summary, we’ll be going back again next year!

Quite a good concept:People find a good money saving deal.Post details & a link to it.Others can comment on it and give it a “temperature” rating.

The deals seem to fall into a few main groups:Freebies being given away by companies.Discount or promotional codes from shops (some of these are quite good)Tons and tons of mobile phone dealsGenuine reductions on items for sale in stores.

What lets the site down (imho) is the search engine. A lot of the “hot” deals expire quite quickly because either the stores only have a limited number of things in the promotion or there is a short expiry date on the deal.However you can only filter the dross by either “temperature” and “recent”, not both.

Also, don’t be completely put off in you are not in the UK as a lot of the deals are with Amazon, etc who will ship anywhere.

Still give it a go and see what you think.
