Superb restaurant in wonderful room with lovely staff.

We went out to Jacob’s last May for my birthday. We had only been once before with my parents several years previously and it had been excellent.
It is still one of the best rooms in the country having been Turkish baths many years ago. We arrivd in to be greeted by genuinely friendly staff and got a nice seat on the main floor.
The menu was initially disappointing. Whatever language they used didn’t excite me. It turns out I had to wait for the food for that to happen!
We both loved every course we ate. Wonderful depth of flavour, nothing out of place and just incredibly tasty.
Catherine started with baked goat’s cheese which was in pastry on salad leaves with pesto style dressing.
I started with Rillettes of Duck hich were basically like pate and full of flavour. The figs were a perfect touch.
For mains Catherine had Salmon in Red Thai Curry which sounds a bit boring (and looked it too) but which she adored.
Mine was unusual - it was listed as a Lamb Shank but it came out as de-constructed Lamb Shank wrapped in a cabbage leaf. Again sounded and looked a bit boring but I ate every morsel. How she manages to squeeze so much flavour out of her ingredients I do not know.
Desserts were Pecan Pie with Caramel Ice Cream for Catherine
and Citrus Salad Dessert with Sorbet for me.
Both flawless.
The Maitre’d was very chatty and really gave a very comfortable feel to the place which is so important.
We left stuffed and happy despite the parking nightmare that is City Centre Cork most times of the day.
if you visit Cork, you really shouldn’t miss this fabulous restaurant. Why don’t they have a Michelin star?
