Last Monday evening, Granny Mary offered to babysit, so we decided to take her up on her offer and head out for a bite to eat. Alas, the majority of eateries in Bandon do not open on Monday evenings. So it was a choice of travelling further afield or opting for more informal pub grub. As we were both wrecked after the weekend’s excitement, pub grub it was and we headed to the Brogan Inn.
It was quiet when we arrived with just a couple of other people there, but we were greeted and ordered a couple of pints of Guinness whilst we perused the menu. It consisted of a few starters, some desserts and 6 or so mains. Conor ordered a fillet steak, whilst I went with the sirloin steak.
These were accompanied with generous portions of mushrooms, onions and chips, pepper sauce or garlic butter and were cooked to perfection. We ordered a bottle of house red and Conor had a coffee to finish as we were both too full for desserts.
The bill came to a very reasonable €65 and we left after a very relaxing and enjoyable couple of hours. Would definitely recommend it if you’re in the humour for good, basic, tasty food without any hassle.

I eat in the Brogan Inn twice now and both times members of staff were drunk on duty.
The food there is poor very old in style.
But you get what you are paying for.

Sorry to hear you’d such a bad experience of the place.
As far as I know, the management/owner/leasee of the restaurant/bar has changed a few times over the past few years, so I’m hoping it was a while ago that you dined there?
Posted 31 May 2007 at 9:32 am ¶The last time I ate there was 1 month ago.

Oh dear, sorry to hear that, I guess we were just lucky the night we were there. Its a pity as there are very few places to eat in Bandon on a Monday night and sometimes you just don’t feel like the hassle of driving elsewhere.

The menu is easy to choose from and inexpensive as far as portions are concerned. And Catherine is correct in that there are very few places to eat in and around Bandon on a Monday/Tuesday night. I find the Brogan Inn a breath of fresh air as regards attitude to eating in Bandon. Long may it continue.

Hi JD,
Posted 26 Jun 2007 at 1:56 pm ¶Glad to hear that you, similiarly to us, had a good experience of the place. We’ll hopefully get to try the Sunday carvery at some stage, though will probably wait till we’ve a babysitter as bringing the 5 out with us doesn’t tend to lead to a relaxed eating ambience.
Its a pity more restaurants don’t open in Bandon on a Monda. It seems strange that, in tourist season at least, they don’t all organise a rota of day to open and close so that at least there’s more of a choice early in the week. I don’t geddit??
