An album bought on the strength of one track, initially nonplussed, now loving it.

When I first heard the fabulous “Young folks” or whistling song on the radio, I immediately thought of the Beautiful South. It’s a brilliantly catchy pop song and it remained with me for the rest of the day.
A few days later, as I have done on numerous occasions, I bought its album “Writer’s block”, on the promise of this one song. Initial listening, I was disappointed. The rest of the songs just didn’t seem to have the same appeal and didn’t grab me at all. I gave up on it after a couple of listens.
A few days ago, I decided to give it another go, before writing about it. This time however, its definitely grown on me, the bongos, synths, guitars, tamborines, the lyrics, the feel, the lot.
I am humming “Up against the wall” at the moment. Coolo. That and “Paris 2004″.
Yep, shall be playing this album for a good while yet.

This was one of my albums of last year - ‘Amsterdam’ and ‘Up Against the Wall’ are my faves.

Excellent, but good gawd, I’ve alot of catching up to do. I blame all these kids for my current lack of music knowledge
Will have to do better.

I was playing writers block on the way up in the car and Fionn the 1.5 year old loves it. He can’t really speak many words and yet was mumbling and clapping his hands along. Quite funny. Between that and the 5 year old singing plaintively “understand me” after listening to Depeche Mode’s greatest hits, I beginning to wonder if they’re trying to tell me something. I realised today that the “Against the wall” track reminded me of New Order.
Congrats on the blog awards shortlists, you’re obviously the right woman to talk to about music.

However, I couldn’t remember the song’s name, and I Google-searched in vain until I came across your post. A Napster search confirmed it’s the same tune. Am I glad you posted this!
