Disappointing 19th book in the alphabet mystery series.

Most of the time, I read for the same reasons that some people watch soap operas, purely for entertainment and escapism. I want a book to be “unputdownable” and this certainly wasn’t.
I have read most of the others in this series, starting with A is for Alibi and have been a fan and enjoyed them. However, I’m beginning to think that PI Kinsey Millhone has got a smidge predictable and boring.
The plot centred around a missing person who went AWOL in 1953 and the narrative jumps between then and present day. Maybe it was this fact, or maybe it was that I gave birth midway through reading this novel and concentration levels are a smidge awry, but I found it at times tedious to keep up with who was who, and the plot in general.
The end of the whodunnit, I thought was abrupt and not particularly well explained. In addition, as in her previous novels, I would have prefered more on Kinsey herself rather than just the total concentration on the crime/mystery.

Hiya. I have slipped Sue Grafton off my radar screen because, alas, they have declined. It is, I suppose, hard to keep the series idea going well for so many installments. I read one once (long story) as a reader’s digest condensed novel. Turned out to be much better in an odd way than the original.. . . . Anyway, I review some murder mysteries etc at my site Cooking with Ideas (http://www.cookingwithideas.typepad.com), indexed under murder on the menu.

Love your website. Good combination of murder mysteries and food. I like it! Whilst I’m not a fanatical cook, having neither the enthusiasm nor the flair, I enjoy perusing cookbooks and do manage to follow a recipe to produce something edible in the end. I leave the innovation in the kitchen to Conor, my husband.
I will definitely be reading your murder mystery book reviews as am looking to discover new authors as I am getting weary of my usual old reliables. On a first look, you have plenty that I have not come across before. Excellent and thanks!
